A part of the Olomouc fortress system was built on Tabulový vrch in the years 1839 - 1846. In the central part of the large fortress complex is the Department of the Central Registry, ie the archive of the University Hospital Olomouc.
The Redoubt is one of the buildings of the so-called Fort Wreath - the unique project of Lieutenant Colonel Wurmb from 1850, which brought mainly the modernization of the Olomouc Fortress. It is exceptional in the set of fort buildings in Olomouc because it was used mainly as a prison. According to fans of fortification buildings, Tafelberg is the only building that can compete with the vast and preserved inner corridors of the famous forts in Josefov.
One of the Olomouc forts has been in the neighborhood of the current maternity hospital since 1846, more than three hundred workers worked on its construction daily for more than six years.
In times of greatest glory he was armed with twenty-three cannons, his crew could have up to 840 men. It was built to defend the local height.
The journey to the underground of the massive brick building begins in the corridor with loopholes. Some of them are bricked-in, others from outside penetrate a little light. Mouths of corridors lead further into the dark. In one part, these defensive tunnels are even two-storey, some of the floors and vaults have fallen.
In addition to the army of the Austrian monarchy, the Germans also left their mark here during World War II. The brick walls of the tunnels are alternated by concrete, another exit from the underground appears. Now he is barred, leading from under the defensive wall directly to one of the houses nearby housing estate.
At present, the central part of the large fortress complex is the seat of the Central Registry Department, ie the archive of the University Hospital Olomouc
