The Orthopedic Clinic

The Orthopedic Department in Olomouc was established as the second independent orthopedic department in Moravia on 1 June 1939.

 

It was housed in the Surgery building of the former Provincial Institutes and had 25 beds. On the recommendation of prof. Bedřich Frejka from Brno his disciple MUDr. Arnold Pavlík. Shortly after the end of II. During World War II, the orthopedic department, together with the pediatric ward, were moved to a separate building on the outskirts of the hospital.

 

After the reconstruction of the Palacký University in Olomouc, the department became an orthopedic clinic in April 1946. In January 1948 doc. Pavlík appointed professor of orthopedics.

 

He was replaced by doc. MUDr. František Hampel, CSc., Who was the head of the department until 1987. At that time, a major reconstruction of the existing building was decided and the clinic was relocated for three years to a substitute room (long-term hospital).

In 1990, doc. MUDr. Rudolf Ditmar Under his leadership, the number of operations increased, especially in the field of endoprosthetics, and the era of arthroscopic procedures began. At this time the clinic had 87 beds. In 2004 the number of beds decreased to 50.
