April 26, 1945 In the framework of the Bratislava-Brno operation, Brno freed the Red Army. On April 27, 1945, the Revolutionary National Committee met with its first meeting.
Immediately at the end of May Germans from Brno and the so-called Brno Death Mourning took place, during which 20,000 Moravian Germans were taken to Austrian territory on foot and 1691 of them died.

 

The Brno-Tuřany International Airport was built in 1958.

In 1959, the construction of the first Brno panel housing estate began in Černovice. The subsequent massive construction of the panel housing estates continued in the 60s, 70s and 80s and markedly marked the appearance of many Brno districts.

In 1987 the Masaryk circuit was built.
