The column was built in 1715-1723 by Václav Render as an expression of the gratitude of the Olomouc burghers for the end of the plague that struck Moravia between 1714 and 1716.
Jan Sturmer (statue of St. Mary Immaculata, statue of St. Francis Xaverský and the statue of St. Karel Boromejský) and Tobias Schutz (other sculptures except the later sculpted St. Šebestian statue) worked on the sculptural decoration.
In 1758 the column was damaged during the Prussian siege of Olomouc and the statue of St. Šebestián was then replaced.
Between 1985-1992, the original twisted (twisted) column was replaced with a copy during the restoration.
Since 1995, together with the Holy Trinity Column and a set of Baroque fountains according to Government Decree No. 262/1995 Coll. of 16 August 1995 on the declaration and cancellation of declarations of certain cultural monuments as national cultural monuments classified among the national cultural monuments.
At the top of the column is the statue of the Virgin Mary Immaculate (patron of the city of Olomouc and the protector of the plague). At the bottom of the column there are eight statues of saints.
