The Špalíček - one of the main symbols of Cheb architecture can be found in the northern part of King George of Poděbrady Square. It is a unique complex of eleven medieval merchant houses from the 14th century.
The history of Špalíček
These interesting, half-timbered houses began to be built in the 13th century, depending on the needs of the Cheb merchants on the site of shopkeepers and meat shops. The whole complex as we know it today was completed in the 15th century. To date, only 2 of the original 3 blocks have been preserved. The third was probably demolished in the 19th century. The last major reconstruction of the complex took place in 1965.
The Sightseeing tour
In fact, Spalicek consists of 2 blocks of 3 - 4 storeyed houses divided by a closure of Kramarska Street, which is only 160 cm wide. So if you do not suffer from claustrophobia, you can go through the Spalík. The alley is freely accessible. Even today, the houses are the seat of shops and shops of various types, cafes and restaurants.
