prof. PhDr. Edvard Beneš, Dr. h. c.

Politician, sociologist and diplomat.

In 1915 he emigrated from the monarchy, settled in Paris, and, together with Masaryk, organized Czechoslovak resistance abroad. Since 1917, he has led most of the major negotiations with the French government and other powers, and has thus deserved the origin of Czechoslovakia.
In the first Czechoslovak government he became the Foreign Minister and in this position remained in all subsequent governments until his election to the second Czechoslovak president on 18 December 1935.

After signing the Munich Agreement on October 5, 1938, Edvard Beneš resigned from office and on 22 October 1938 he traveled to Great Britain, where he formed one of the centers of foreign resistance.

In 1940, he formed an exile government in London, which in 1941 achieved international recognition.

In 1943 he flew to Moscow, where he signed a cooperation agreement in December.
After the end of World War II, in 1945, he issued the laws - the so-called Beneš decrees, which concerned mainly the expulsion and confiscation of the property of Germans, Hungarians and collaborators.

After February 1945 he relocated to his private residence in Sezimovo Ústí and on June 7, 1948, he resigned as president, refusing to sign a new constitution.
